Church Leadership and the Good Shepard

sheep being led by a good shepard

This month we are going to start a new series on Church Leadership. First and foremost we will talk about Jesus. Jesus is the Great Shepherd. Jesus is the Chief Shepherd. Jesus is the Good Shepherd.

David tells us in Psalm 23

“The Lord is my Shepherd.”

Hebrews 13:20 tells us that

“Our Lord Jesus is The Great Shepherd of the Sheep.” 1 Peter 5:4 tells us that “When the Chief Shepherd appears you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.”

Jesus himself tells us in John 10

“I am the Good Shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me. I am the Good Shepherd and I lay down my life for my sheep. I do it because I want to. No man will take my life from me. Instead, I give it freely. After I have laid down my life I take it up again.”

Jesus died protecting us from eternal separation from God. He willingly laid down his life for us and he took it up again!  As followers of Jesus we find our hope and comfort through Jesus, our Good Shepherd.

On September 11th we will look at the role deacons play in the church and have a special ordination service for our new deacons (John Sherrel, Levi Snyder, Drew Montague).

On September 18th we will look at the role elders play in the church.

On September 25th we will look at the role each of us is to play in the church.

I am looking forward to a great month!
